Music for TV

For the past three years I’ve been working towards writing music for libraries with the goal of getting my tracks into TV, adverts and film. This is often referred to as sync music. Until now, I’d mostly produced for clients or written tracks for royalty-free music catalogues - which license music for YouTube and social media creators.

My interest in music for TV and film stems from something I’ve done since I first learned to produce - writing upbeat instrumentals without needing vocals. When I started my freelance production business in 2020, I often posted 30–60 second instrumental tracks on Instagram for fun and to experiment with different genres. Back then I had no defined ‘sound’ as a producer, so I simply shared whatever styles I connected with.

For a while I thought producing for clients was my only option, since I don’t sing and never wanted to be a front-facing artist. But when I discovered music-to-media - RFM and TV/film sync - it immediately clicked. It was exactly what I enjoyed about music, with the bonus of another income stream. I began with RFM as a way to sharpen my skills for TV and film, but even that opened unexpected doors. My tracks have since featured in videos from BMW, an Emmy Award-winning documentary, NBC, ABC, NFL, The Discovery Channel, TNT and more.

Now, three years later, I’ve finally stepped fully into sync. In just two months I’ve released two albums with a music library - one Pop House and the other Upbeat Nu-Disco. I’m excited to see where they land, and the experience has fuelled me to keep writing sync albums. After all, I’ve been waiting years for this moment.
